LET’S NOT FORGET OUR FIREMEN
We read about fires burning in different place in our country, but do we really ever consider the amount of courage, dedication, and know-how that firemen have to have to fight these fires. It’s the fireman’s job, right– to fight fires? It’s a lot more than that. Unless you have had to fight to overcome a raging fire yourself, you can never realize how much it involves.
Firemen and women risk their lives every time they rush to fight a fire. It’s not like any other job. They take their lives in their hands everyday to help keep us safe from fires that might destroy our homes, our businesses, and our very lives.
Today, I read in this morning’s paper how a giant fire in the Angeles National Forest has burned more than 42,500 acres, and caused the death of two fire-fighters. The vehicle they were driving had caught fire, and it caused them to drive over the side of a treacherous road in the mountains, and they were killed. These kinds of tragedies happen all the time to firefighters. In June 2007, nine firefighters were killed when a roof collapsed in a furniture warehouse that was on fire. Their families experienced the same type of loss and emptiness they would feel, if their loved one was lost in a war. It is actually a war they fight every time they are called to put out a fire.
They are also on the scene when there is an accident, or a child or animal has been hurt. We forget just how much firemen help to keep us safe. They are truly heroes in every sense of the word. So, let’s not ever forget our firemen and women.
