HEROES CORNER
You may not realize it, but heroes come in all sizes, and not always those we may think of as a hero. We like to always look up to a hero, and that’s the way it should be. However, this hero I’m thinking of is actually a little heroine. In fact, you would have to bend over to be able to look up to her. But, I do nevertheless.
She’s a little girl just five years old, and in the five years of her life so far, she has had to undergo two major heart surgeries, and additional arterial surgeries to her heart, each one a dangerous surgery. She was born with a heart defect, and without surgery would not be here with us today. Although only five years old, she attends kindergarten every day and is a bright, happy, vivacious little girl that likes to laugh a lot and play make believe. She’s very loving and generous with her hugs for her family members, especially mommy, daddy, and grandma.
However, when she was in the hospital suffering pain and discomfort, she was very brave and compliant as to what the nurses had to do to administer to her. When she was just born, she had to have an IV tube injected into her head. At another trip to the hospital she had to have a heart catheterization tube administered through her groin. With her heart surgeries, she has had to have draining tubes to drain any excess fluid from her heart. Once she was asked to cough even though it hurt a lot for her to do so, yet she did it bravely. In spite of all that she’s been through, she’s a very well-adjusted and happy little girl, and it’s fun to have her around.
We all think she’s incredibly brave and is an example to all of us. I think she deserves the label of being a heroine, even though she’s only five years old.
