We Finally Have a President
Well, we finally have a new president. The waiting is over and whether we are elated or disappointed, there will soon be a new person sitting in the oval office. Senator Barak Obama has a monumental task before him both in domestic and foreign issues. Time will tell whether he can surmount all of the obstacles before him. However, the theme both of the candidates drove home was that we are in need of change. Will he be able to exact the changes that are needed? Time will tell, and most assuredly, we are overdue for change to try to overcome all of the problems that now besiege our country.
As Americans, we owe him our support and encouragement. He has already achieved something never achieved before by an African American; the highest position of our country. His job will not be easy. To appear successful to the American people, he will have to get our country back on its feet. He will have to get our people back to work, stop out-sourcing our jobs over seas, stop the foreclosing of countless homes, and work to establish a health care system we can all afford. He will have to work to provide more protection for our borders and ports, get our servicemen and women back home in reasonable time, and work to protect our environment. Parents can’t afford to send their children to college anymore. The cost of groceries and gas for our cars has become so expensive, that there is very little left for dining out occasionally or entertainment. Yes, Senator Obama has his work cut out for him. I hope that he can succeed.
But, we can all help. We can stop being negative, prejudiced, and lazy and stop feeling sorry for ourselves. If we all work together and not complain, we can get our country back on its feet. Let’s stop the partisan politics and work together. Whether you voted for Senator Obama or not, let’s start being positive and stand proud as Americans and make the world respect our country again.
