Advice – October 2009

Dear Sal,

I have kept my mouth shut far too long, I am a waitress in a busy restaurant with regular clientele. I know my patrons, and they always leave a tip. The economy has already made the tips smaller and dinner out nights fewer. On top of that, I have a tip grabbing bus girl who swears to my face that there was nothing on the table. It’s like a race now, I have to hover over my tables and be right there when they look like they have finished. Low and behold, when I get there before Miss Grabby Hands, there is a tip. I have had it, and I can’t risk coming unglued in front of everyone. Do you have any suggestions?

Starving in a restaurant

Dear Starving,

Why isn’t your employer informed? When you are absolutely sure without a doubt that Miss Grabby Hands is pilfering all of the tips, you must bring clear concise information, include dates and activity. The best solution if possible, is to catch her in the act of stealing, let’s not candy coat this, it is theft. In these current times, people are scratching to make ends meet and unfortunately some will proceed without integrity. We need to always stand for what is right regardless if it effects us directly or it is someone else who is being victimized. A stronger emphasis on moral values strengthens the entire world.

Love, Sal
