Dear Sal,
I am expecting my baby any day now. During the birth of my last child, I was overwhelmed with visitors, and it was really exhausting. I have a large family, and so does my husband. This time, we have decided to not have any visitors come to the hospital, and to have them come and visit when I return home and am rested. Some members of both families have not liked this and have wanted me to make exceptions. I don’t want to insult any one, I just want some peace with my new baby. Am I being selfish?
Mama to Be
Dear Mama to Be,
No, you are not being selfish at all. If you make an exception with one member of your family, his family will feel left out and unhappy about it. Stick to your decision and be firm. You and your husband deserve that peace and quiet before all the visitors start coming. Also, your baby deserves it too. Congratulations on your baby to be!
Sal
