Advice – February 2010

Dear Sal,
What do I do? I recently began a new job which is part-time. I really like my boss, and we get along very well. I have worked with her for one week. My dilemma is that now I’ve been offered a full-time position with another company in the same line of work. It will be a larger income, but I will be replacing the position of a friend. This friend I introduced to my ex-husband. They are now living together and planning to marry. I know this would be awkward if I take her job. My husband thinks I should take it. I like where I am, there is a possibility of more hours in the future. Should I take it?

Dear Indecisive Nail Biter,
Interesting dilemma. Keep the job you have started. It is the honorable thing to do. Chances are, you will obtain more hours as you go along. It sounds like you are happy there, and that means a lot. If you are happy, there is less job stress. If you quit now, you would look unappreciative and a little flaky. Also, there would be a conflict with your friend and your ex-husband, and perhaps a lot of hostility. It’s not worth it. Follow your conscience. Good luck!
Sal
